WHEN CULTURES CLASH…..

The current situation occurring in the political realm between Australia and China is an interesting example of cross -cultural conflict.
Politics aside, the behaviours and responses of both parties have been highly ethnocentric in their approach.
Australia has failed to temper it’s response and been perhaps too hasty in responding. They have also reacted to a lower ranking person’s behaviour which is not in line with the hierarchical values system that China has.
China has challenged the liberal and democratic values that typify Australian culture and thus caused great offence. My sense of this situation is that both parties need to be more culturally intelligent and diplomatic in their relations.
Hopefully this relationship can be reset and repaired so that both parties can achieve positive outcomes going forward.
