I was discussing a team’s performance with their manager recently and what emerged was, that although the team is performing very well and are highly engaged, their manager is worried they will burn out. The team is working long hours virtually and made up of young professionals all trying to achieve milestones and advance their careers.
My suggestion to the manager was to take the time to check in with each of the team members from a non-work perspective and to make sure they were coping in the broader sense. This not only demonstrates care but is key in building trust and ensuring alignment with team purpose.
It is critical to take stock of the team from both a professional and personal level particularly in the current climate of ongoing change and uncertainty.
