  3. Creativity – do something that taps into the other part of your brain.
  4. Faith – having a level of spirituality or looking at something in a greater context
  5. Keep learning – putting yourself in learning environments

  • How do you renew yourself? How do you keep yourself fresh and how do you bring that energy to your teams? More importantly, how do you renew your teams?

Vulnerability

Vulnerability-CQ

In this episode of the CQ for Global Leaders Podcast, Tom discusses vulnerability and why it’s important in leadership. 

Vulnerability

  • Being vulnerable means being exposed to either a physical or emotional sense of attack. 
  • Vulnerability demonstrates a sense of humanity.
  • Vulnerability creates a safe place for people to provide input.
  • In a world that’s full of cognitive bias, what you need is cognitive periphery or someone who thinks differently. It is all about getting different perspectives and being comfortable in being vulnerable.
  • When you are willing to share your shortcomings and demonstrate that you are not perfect, it enables you to establish authentic connections and display vulnerability to the point where people feel it’s safe to offer their opinions.

  • How comfortable are you with being vulnerable? How much do you share with your team? 
  • How comfortable are you with sharing things about others and how can you push that out a little?

Belonging

CQGL-010 Belonging

In this episode of the CQ for Global Leaders Podcast, Tom discusses how leaders can enable their people to have a sense of belonging to their organisation.

Belonging

  • Belonging means “being a member of”.
  • All human beings want to be connected. As leaders, we should enable our people to have a sense of belonging to our organisation. It’s all about making them feel safe, secure, and certain. 
  • “People like us do things like this.” – Seth Godin
  • Leaders need to have that sense of curiosity. Getting to know an individual beyond what we see is key. 
  • Human connection fuels a higher level of engagement, output, and innovation. When people feel they are connected and that they belong, they end up doing more.
